Ceramic Veneers

Ceramic Veneers
Veneers are essentially a thin shell that covers the front of the tooth and is usually made with a ceramic material although many prefer composite as an alternative (see our composite bonding page).
Ceramic veneers are an amazing way to restore discoloured, worn or chipped teeth. They have become less popular here in the UK in recent years due to the advent of composite bonding which is cheaper (although less durable and can stain more readily).
They still have their place especially for patients who are looking for perfection as composite can sometimes struggle to get to the very white straight look some patients are after. They are also useful in cases where the original tooth quality is not good and a large build up is required.
Veneers do require some tooth removal (approx. 1-2mm). At Hewett’s Dental we follow the most up to date protocol for preparation aiming to keep it as minimal as possible. The first visit is aimed at planning where a wax up of the desired shape can be made by a lab. This can be trialed in your mouth (trial smile) to get an idea of the new shapes suit you. With your approval, we can move on to the preparation visit where we reduce the tooth using our minimally invasive techniques and place temporary veneers. The final lab made veneers are cemented a week or two later and final adjustments done.
