Hygiene Therapy

Hygiene services are provided by dental hygienists who work under the supervision of dentists. They include teeth cleaning, taking X-rays and educating patients on proper oral care. The cleaning process removes plaque and tartar buildup to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. In addition to this, therapists are able to provide fillings and simple tooth extractions on children.

We are lucky at Hewett’s Dental for having two therapists, Liz and Kirstie who are both capable of additional treatments such as whitening and composite bonding.

Hygienists teach patients how to maintain good oral hygiene at home and are essential in maintaining good oral health, preventing tooth decay and gum disease, and detecting problems early.

It’s advised to have an examination by a dentist first before being referred to the hygienist so a more complete picture of your oral health can be established. Saying that, many patients prefer to book in straight with the hygienist for a clean or airflow advanced polishing for convenience or if urgent cosmetic stain removal is required.
You are able to do this online here.

Costs vary depending on the need and extent of the gum issues.
