Root Canal

Root Canal
A dreaded term for many and in our opinion it is unwarranted in the modern age. Patients recall horrific stories about this and we feel we need to clear the air with the latest advice and recommendations.
Luckily at Hewett’s Dental we have Dr Shaheer who is an expert in this receiving many referrals from all over Yorkshire.
What if we were to tell you that many patients actually fall asleep during the process? Hard to believe but the most difficult thing most patients have to deal with is keeping your mouth open for the length of the appointment which can range from one to two hours. Sounds like a long time but so long as it’s pain free (and it should be if the dentist has used enough anesthetic) plus you have a TV in the ceiling to distract you and let you drift off.
The procedure used to treat damage or infection in the soft tissue (pulp) inside the tooth’s root canals. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and other tissue, and when it becomes damaged or infected, it can cause severe pain and even lead to tooth loss if left untreated. The goal of root canal treatment is to remove the damaged or infected pulp and then seal the root canals to prevent further infection and ultimately save the tooth. Success rates are between 60-95%. Success is typically higher if this is done by an endodontist, a dentist who has enhanced qualifications and skills in this kind of treatment.
After the Root Canal Treatment is completed, a dental crown or a filling is placed over the treated tooth to protect it and restore its function.
